The Embankment Building, completed in 1935, is a true Shanghai Art Deco landmark.
The famed real estate magnate, Sir Victor Sassoon, built the Embankment Building and its sister, the iconic Peace Hotel, during Shanghai’s antebellum heyday. While the Peace Hotel - now the Fairmont Peace Hotel - glittered its way through the ages, the more subtle Embankment Building fell into the passing shadows of time. Today, CHAI Living breathes new life into the Embankment Building, introducing unexpected concepts that blend creativity, culture, and sophistication with the building’s unique legacy.
Viewed from above, the Embankment Building and the Peace Hotel form the tycoon’s initials “V.S.” embedded in the fabric of the city for posterity.
