Combining European and Asian elements, the Ateliers building embodies CHAI Living’s philosophy of sophistication, culture, and creativity. Large windows, abundant natural light, lofty ceilings, hardwood flooring and embellished with Art Deco touches, the Ateliers are both inspirational and practical spaces within which to imagine, to dream, to create and to produce.
History
Located close to the Bund, Shanghai’s most iconic promenade, as well as East Nanjing Road, a bustling pedestrian thoroughfare and shopping destination, the Bank of Canton building with its arresting Art Deco lines is truly a Shanghai landmark.
The building was completed in 1933 by Poy Gum Lee, a Chinese-American architect renowned during his time for his work in Shanghai on the YWCA building and in Nanjing for his work on the mausoleum of Sun Yat-sen. Originally the headquarters of the Bank of Canton, it is today home to the Creative Ateliers by CHAI Living and reveals graceful and functional interiors, embellished with rare art pieces and antiquities from around the world.
Stepping into the Ateliers by CHAI Living means entering an exquisite and discreet world, a place far removed from the chaotic maelstrom of daily Shanghai life. Every last detail is attended to here and every square inch is suffused with the spirit of creativity and sophistication.
